The Hunt is On: Scouting for Gems in the City

It's been officially eleven days since I finished my gradaute diploma in interactive design, and I have never had as much spare time as I do now. The days feel longer, and it probably doesn't help that I've been waking up earlier than usual these days too. I've even started ritualistically making my own morning matcha at home now too, since I had been spending a stupidly large amount of dough on matcha lattes for the past couple of months. In saying that, I have found a better and even more money exhuastive cause to support; that being film photography.

Actually, I just went to Junktion on Karangahape Road this morning to pick up an AE-1 Program, and I already can't wait to take it out for a spin. Although Auckland is a very small city, I do believe there are plenty of scattered hidden gems, and with the added days and hours on my hands, I'm on a mission to hunt them all down and start visually encapsulating them with my newfound gadget.

Tomorrow, my very heavily pregnant older sister is coming up from Christchurch for a Christmas work event of some sorts, so I'll probably pop on over to The Black and White Box to pick up some film and then go out for a quick shoot with her. This is the first time someone in our immediate family is having a child, so it'll be fun to capture her in her big bellied state, haha. Hopefully the weather will be as good as it is today.

The plan is to shoot as often as I can, although I doubt I have the funds and discipline to keep the momentum going for long, because to be honest, I just don't have any particular expectations with film photography at this stage so early on. I do think that the point is to just experiment and have fun with it, and I also believe that if that I am truly enjoying the process, then that's enough for me to not look back and cry at the diminishing numbers in my bank account like a sulky newborn baby. So until I hit my next roadblock, I will keep shooting, creating, and dreaming up new ideas with my camera.

Anyway, that's it for today! Until next time, kind stranger.
